Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 4 is live now, adding colorblind mode and over 1,000 fixes to BG3

Colorblind mode is a welcome addition, but it could have been better

Larian Studios has released patch notes for Baldur's Gate 3's latest Patch 4, which went live today, November 2, 2023. The new massive update makes over 1,000 changes to the acclaimed RPG.

The biggest addition coming with BG3's Patch 4 is that colorblind players can now choose between protanopia, deuteranopia, or tritanopia filters to improve the readability of various interface elements.

The new colorblind mode options can be found under the Accessibility tab in Settings. These apply color changes to character outlines and circles, character and enemy map markers, portrait frames in turn order, and party portraits, to make it easier for players with specific types of colorblindness to differentiate between friends and foes in and out of combat.

It is a welcome and much-needed addition to improve accessibility, but the changes to some colors seem too subtle to make a difference, and some players would prefer the option to pick the colors of specific interface elements themselves.

Another welcome improvement is that you can now dismiss dead avatars of co-op players at Withers' Wardrobe. The option to remove multiplayer characters from your party was added in another recent update, but they had to be alive to dismiss them. Withers will now also explain how the wardrobe works, in another quality-of-life fix.

You'll also be able to customize the appearance of Hirelings when you recruit them.

There's a big change to the Speak with Dead spell. Players can now cast it again if they didn't get to ask any questions the first time.

The patch also brings various fixes to crashes and bugs, combat issues with enemy AI, and some NPCs being able to shoot through walls and ceilings, as well as minor balance changes.

Other minor tweaks include refinements to Scratch's fetch behavior, as your trusty dog will now fetch anything you throw at them. Patch 4 also adds useful new UI elements, such as map markers when characters want to talk to you and new icons for recently added features like Magic Mirror, which lets you change your appearance, and Withers' Wardrobe, where you dismiss player avatars from your party.

You can find a comprehensive list of changes in Patch 4 in the full patch notes on Baldur's Gate 3's official website.
