Erling Haaland is the EA Sports FC 24 Standard Edition cover star, the company has officially revealed.

This confirmation of previous leaks came during a livestream a few days after the much ridiculed reveal of the EA Sports FC 24 Ultimate Edition cover, which features over 30 soccer stars. Fans of the series, which is going through a branding change with its next iteration, mocked the visual style the publisher chose for the box art, which is a stark contrast to the real-life photography used for previous covers.

Haaland, who was born in Leeds but has Norwegian citizenship, is one of the most promising talents in the entire sport. Transferring into Germany’s Bundesliga from Austria in 2020 – then just 20 years old – Haaland immediately got to work, becoming the first player in the league’s history to score five goals in his first two matches. Likewise, he became the first player to score six times in his first three UEFA Champions League games, establishing himself as a rising star in a short amount of time.

The Standard Edition of EA Sports FC 24 got a regular photography cover.

After his stint with Borussia Dortmund he made the jump to England’s Premier League, where he was hired by Manchester City – the German club making a tidy profit from the trade. The Norwegian continued right where he left, scoring 36 goals in 35 league matches as well as a dozen goals in eleven UEFA Champions League games in his debut season – historical stats.

It’s no wonder, then, that EA Sports chose the popular Haaland to end the reign of French star Kylian Mbappé on the cover, who had this on lockdown over the last couple of iterations.
