A new Sons of the Forest update is already in the works, Endnight said in a recent Reddit and Discord AMA session, and the team has quite a bit in store following the game's Steam-breaking launch (thanks, PC Gamer). One of the more significant improvements Endnight wants to make in the survival game involves giving your friendly companions a bigger role.

“We have big plans to keep adding tasks Kelvin can complete,” Endnight said on Reddit. “Some ideas in progress are having are having him help construct a wall around your base, or fortify/repair the base when needed. For Virginia, we plan to add more to her A.I. particularly giving her more bravery if she has a weapon, and also depending on how many mutants/cannibals she has killed.”

Virginia is supposed to help you in combat once you befriend her, but it’s a 50/50 chance that actually happens at the moment.

Future updates will also add more variety to cannibals and their behavior and at least one new enemy the team wasn’t ready to include at launch. More cutscenes and story material are also in the works, and the team is considering new forms of transportation.

One feature fans wanted to see return from the original was the log sled. Endnight said the sled was so buggy and difficult to work with in The Forest that they didn’t think it was worth including in the sequel. The team didn’t commit to adding it back in, but they did say they were surprised by how many people were asking for it.

Endnight didn't have a firm date in mind for when the update may release. Sons of the Forest is available for PC in early access.
