Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League roadmap – Elseworld Joker coming in Season 1

Rocksteady has revealed its post-launch plans

Rocksteady has revealed its post-launch live-service plans for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, and the first free character coming to the game is Joker. No, not the dead Joker from Batman: Arkham Knight, but a new "Elseworld" version of the clown prince of crime.

In a new episode of Suicide Squad Insider, the developer explained its live-service roadmap for the game, with the multiverse being the driving force behind most of the new additions. After completing the base campaign, players can look forward to seasonal content that will include new playable characters, locations, emotes and more.

The first season, starting in March 2024, will include two episodes and be heavily themed around a popular DC villain – this will be a theme going forward. The two episodes in Season 1 have been teased to be tied to Two-Face and the Scarecrow. They will also bring new Riddler trophies, boss fights, enemy variants and a Joker-themed playable environment.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Season 1 content overview.

Season 1 of Suicide Squad is looking packed.

Rocksteady’s justification for bringing in new versions of existing (or dead, in this case) Arkhamverse characters is that Brainiac has been "creating new worlds in alternate realities" in his efforts to re-create his home planet Colu. This leads to alternate versions of popular DC characters making their way into the Arkham universe.

The new Joker’s visual design is reminiscent of Cesar Romero’s portrayal of the character in the 1960s Batman TV series. It’s a younger Joker that’s not voiced by Mark Hamill, who was a member of the Suicide Squad in his universe. Joker’s traversal and combat are based around a rocket-powered umbrella which he can use to glide around the arena like a nightmarish version of Mary Poppins, along with a mace he can use to fight enemies.

Rocksteady’s plans for Suicide Squad’s post-launch content are fairly generous. No playable content will be locked behind a battle pass, and episodic content will always be available for players to jump into.

Joker is set to be playable in Season 1 of Suicide Squad.

While the game’s title would suggest that DC’s team of superheroes will be long gone by the time the credits roll, Rocksteady seems to be using the multiverse to waive any serious ramifications of its plot. After all, DCU chief James Gunn has commented on the possibility of more Arkham games being developed.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is scheduled to release on February 2, 2024, for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
