The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most-anticipated releases of 2023 and the countdown to launch is ticking: Fans will only have to be patient until Friday to finally set foot in Hyrule once again. While most players who want to dive into things on release day will have a digital copy pre-ordered, there are those who still prefer to have physical editions of their games.

One group of hardcore fans is currently camping outside a Nintendo store in New York City – fully equipped with chairs, blankets, and rain covers. Among them is Alexander Pekala, who posted a photo from where the group is waiting.

While these players are certainly aware of the option to comfortably pre-order, they seem to be doing it for the sake of tradition and fun, because they are so excited about the game coming out – after all, camping in front of stores for midnight sales was for the longest time widely practiced among hardcore fans of video games.

Even celebrities have waited for game launches in this way. Infamously, Zac Efron queued for hours for the release of Halo 3 in Los Angeles and ended up hosting the event.

The prevalence of digital sales has mostly put an end to this practice with people still staying up late to play the newest games on release day, but doing so from the comforts of their homes. If people insist on getting a physical copy and still want to be among the first to play, though, this sort of nostalgic camping is still the way to go.
