In a surprising drop of weekend news, Creative Assembly has revealed that Yuan Bo will be the Legendary Lord joining the ranks of Grand Cathay in the upcoming Shadows of Change DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3.

Yuan Bo is known as the Jade Dragon and is one the children of the Dragon Emperor and Moon Empress, so he’s a sibling of the existing Cathayan characters Miao Ying and Zhao Ming. Similar to his two siblings, Yuan Bo governs an area of Grand Cathay at the behest of his parents, being the leader of the Central Provinces – Cathay’s most fertile and richest regions. In addition to the government of these provinces, Yuan Bo’s Jade Court essentially runs much of the day-to-day business of Grand Cathay as a whole. The Dragon Emperor has named him Administrator of the Realm for this purpose.

A first look at Yuan Bo, the Jade Dragon.

Known as a great planner and manipulator, Yuan Bo looks like a great thematic fit for Shadows of Change. Part of this power comes from the fact that Yuan Bo, who also carries the title of Master of the Meteor Winds, is the most adept among the dragon siblings at controlling the Winds of Magic. It is said that not a single wizard in the entire country can go about their business without the Jade Dragon knowing about it.

His siblings regard Yuan Bo as rather dull, but very reliable and trustworthy. There is some friction between him and Zhao Ming, whose use of alchemy the Jade Dragon regards as dangerous.

You can read more about Yuan Bo in a new story featuring him, which you can claim through your Creative Assembly account.

Aside from Yuan Bo and Grand Cathay, the Shadows of Change DLC will feature new factions for Kislev and the Daemons of Tzeentch with one fresh Legendary Lord each. The expansion will contain a Legendary Hero as well.

Many fans – including us – expected that the Monkey King would represent Grand Cathay in this expansion, but it seems like Creative Assembly is keeping him in reserve for now.
