Gotterdammerung is the most powerful weapon you can obtain in Final Fantasy XVI, and if you want to roam the land as Clive Rosfield in his most powerful incarnation, then you will need to craft the Gotterdammerung with Blackthorne, The Hideaway’s faithful blacksmith.

In this guide we’re breaking down how to obtain the Gotterdammerung crafting recipe, and how to get the materials you need to craft it for yourself in FFXVI.

How to unlock the Gotterdammerung recipe – FF16

Blackthorne will craft the Gotterdammerung at The Black Hammer.

In order to access the Gotterdammerung crafting recipe, you will need to complete a few side quests. Side quests that provide something valuable in FFXVI are marked with a plus (+) symbol – the side quest chain you want is called Blacksmith’s Blues.

You will need to complete Blacksmith’s Blues IV in order to unlock the Gotterdammerung at the end. This will require fairly significant story progress.

Gotterdammerung material locations – FF16

Square Enix

The Gotterdammerung requires the following materials…

• Ragnarok x1
• Orichalcum x3
• Darksteel x2
• Primitive Battlehorn x1

Some of these items are also used in other crafting recipes, so make sure not to unwittingly spend any early if you want to get the Gotterdammerung as soon as possible.

Ragnarok location – FF16

The Ragnarok weapon will be given to you upon completion of Blacksmith’s Blues IV.

Orichalcum location – FF16

You’ll need three Orichalcum – the good news is that there are multiple places to get it in the game. The bad news is that some of these are either Main Story bosses, or Hunt Board monsters. If you stick to Hunt Board monsters, make sure to hunt Atlas, Svarog, and Gorgimera to get Orichalcum as early as possible.

Darksteel location – FF16

Another item you’ll need to take from boss monsters in the Main Story and Hunt Board quests. This time look out for Thanatos and Prince of Death, who will appear on the Hunt Board fairly late in the game.

Primitive Battlehorn location – FF16

Square Enix

You only need one of these, and luckily the monster that has it isn’t too tough to fight. Take down the Gobermouch from the Hunt Board monster list to earn the Primitive Battlehorn.
