If you’re looking to grind some Rayquaza candy in next week’s Primal Rumblings event in Pokémon Go, it’s not a bad idea to mega evolve one of your Pidgeot into Mega Pidgeot, as an active mega evolution of the Flying-type will grant you additional candy upon catching Pokémon of that category. However, you’ll need the necessary mega energy to activate the mega evolution in the first place, for which you need to defeat Mega Pidgeot in raid battles.

The best Pokémon Go Mega Pidgeot counters ensure that you’re stocked up with enough mega energy to keep the bird in the air in the upcoming week.

Best Mega Pidgeot counters – Pokémon Go

Mega Pidgeot is a Flying- and Normal-type Pokémon, just like its base form. That leaves you with three very effective counter options: Electric, Ice, and Rock. Mega Pidgeot does not have a lot of strong countermeasures, so this should be easy going for you.

  1. Xurkitree (Spark, Discharge)
  2. Mega Manectric (Thunder Fang, Wild Charge)
  3. Zekrom (Charge Beam, Fusion Bolt)
  4. Mega Aerodactyl (Rock Throw, Rock Slide)
  5. Rampardos (Smack Down, Rock Slide)
  6. Thundurus (Therian Forme) (Volt Switch, Thunderbolt)
  7. Mega Ampharos (Volt Switch, Zap Cannon)
  8. Rhyperior (Smack Down, Rock Wrecker)
  9. Raikou (Thunder Shock, Wild Charge)
  10. Magnezone (Spark, Wild Charge)
  11. Tyrantrum (Rock Throw, Meteor Beam)
  12. Electivire (Thunder Shock, Wild Charge)
  13. Zapdos (Thunder Shock, Thunderbolt)
  14. Gigalith (Smack Down, Meteor Beam)
  15. Tyranitar (Smack Down, Stone Edge)

Mega Pidgeot may be a mega evolution commanding 38,576 competition points (CP), but it’s not exactly an opponent to be feared. Some level 50 players should be able to finish this battle solo, while trainers on level 40 with Pokémon of that strength can easily win in duos.

As usual, you can’t catch a Mega Pidgeot after defeating it. Instead, you get to catch a regular Pidgeot – though it might turn out to be Shiny – and you earn mega energy for the species. You get more of that, the quicker you finish the battle.
