We got a longer look at the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet & Violet DLC at the recent Nintendo Direct. Alongside the currently running shiny Gimmighoul raid event, we got a look at what some of the new Pokémon in the DLC have up their sleeves.

Specifically, we caught a glimpse of a brand new ability called Toxic Chain, which seems to be extremely powerful – especially if it’s allowed in the competitive scene. We’ll explain what Toxic Chain does and what Pokémon will have it.

Toxic Chain effects and Pokemon – Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Fezandipiti using Air Slash

Toxic Chain is the ability of three of the four new Pokémon currently revealed for The Teal Mask, the first DLC pack. Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti all have it.

The ability badly poisons the opponent when they’re hit with a move. The example shown in the video is of Fezandipiti using Air Slash on Meowscarada, causing it to become poisoned. We don’t know exactly what the odds are yet, but even with low odds, it’s a powerful ability.

Unlike abilities such as Poison Point, there is no contact required to trigger the move, meaning special attacks are just as dangerous as physical ones. Plus, it is “badly” poisoned, which means it works similarly to the move Toxic, which does extra damage for each turn it goes uncured.
