Total War: Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change – all start positions for the DLC factions
The Shadows of Change DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 will bring three new Legendary Lords and their factions into the action on the Realms of Chaos and Immortal Empires campaign maps. Their addition to both maps creates new challenges for the existing factions, changing the power dynamics at the beginning of each game.
Factions also sometimes start somewhere completely different on the two maps, which adds to the variety of things as well.
Here are all Total War: Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change start positions in Immortal Empires and Realms of Chaos.
The Changeling start positions
- Realms of Chaos: Dietershafen, Nordland
- Immortal Empires: Flensburg, Stirland
This is The Changeling's start position for Realms of Chaos.
Creative Assembly
Well, if you thought that there was no way that the Empire could get even more screwed at the beginning of the game, then The Changeling has successfully deceived you: Things are going to get even uglier for the realms of men with Tzeentch’s trickiest servant in the mix. We’ve already seen what havoc this guy can cause in the DLC’s trailer, so he’s going to have an absolute blast in the notoriously grumpy and splintered states that make up the Empire – Karl Franz better gets out his most welcoming smile for his elector counts, lest the Empire gets consumed by civil war.
This is The Changeling's start position for Immortal Empires.
Creative Assembly
The Immortal Empires position is giving The Changeling quite a few options, allowing him to start cooking in several human states at once, stir up trouble for the vampires, and then head up north to cause unrest among the Kislevites.
Tzeentch characters haven’t been very common in this area so far.
Yuan Bo start positions
- Realms of Chaos: Shang-Wu, Central Cathay
- Immortal Empires: Shang-Wu, Central Cathay, and Isle of the Crimson Skull, Lustria
This is Yuan Bo's start position for Realms of Chaos.
Creative Assembly
As you'd expect from the Administrator of the Realm, who is often mistaken for the Dragon Emperor himself due to his aura of authority, Yuan Bo is beginning the Realms of Chaos campaign in the city of Shang-Wu in Central Cathay, where he'll have to deal with Orcs, Skaven, and Lizardmen. The Lizardmen are the big antagonists in Yuan Bo's campaign, as he's looking to claim sites that are especially strongly connected to the Winds of Magic. His father, the Dragon Emperor, seems to have big plans with these locations, but since the Cathayan dragons are arch enemies of the Old Ones revered by the Lizardmen, they are trying to put a stop to these ambitions.
This is Yuan Bo's start position for Immortal Empires.
Creative Assembly
Yuan Bo is getting a dual start in Immortal Empires: He'll still own his capital city of Shang-Wu back in Central Cathay, but he is leading an expedition into Lustria. This is pretty awesome, as old Cathay lore contained a story about the realm launching a big invasion into the Southlands with one of the fleets accidently ending up in Lustria due to the same misconceptions that led Europeans to believe that they had reached India when they landed in the Americas in our world – they simply didn't know that the continent existed.
In Immortal Empires, Yuan Bo is still after specific sites with strong connections to the Winds of Magic, only this time on the Lizardmen's home turf. Things tend to get lethal whenever the trees start speaking bok-bok, so we wish Yuan Bo and his brave warriors the best of luck.
Mother Ostankya start positions
- Realms of Chaos: Dolganyeir Forests, Road of Skulls
- Immortal Empires: Bleak Hold Fortress, The Witchwood
This is Mother Ostankya's start position for Realms of Chaos.
Creative Assembly
Mother Ostankya starts out at the crossroads between East and West. There'll be lots of Chaos followers as well as Chaos Dwarfs to fight, but making her way southwest could also lead her into conflict with the more civilized Kislevites. Just like Boris Urses, Mother Ostankya surely won't lack enemies to fight with.

Creative Assembly
Things are once again getting mixed up for Immortal Empires, where Mother Ostankya has settled in Naggarond. This is going to be an exciting start position for Kislev players, as they'll face lots of enemies early on that simply won't show up very often during a more traditional campaign. Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Tomb Kings, and Vampire Coast factions are all in reach.
