The very easiest way to get a horse in Tears of the Kingdom is to simply take one from an enemy. Explore the world a bit, and you’ll inevitably come across Bokoblin enemies riding horses. These horses are tamer than others, so you can shoot off the Bokoblin and jump on the horse yourself before riding into the distance.

The intended way to get a horse, mind, is to catch one yourself. Again, as you explore the world, you’ll come across wild horses lingering in fields. If you sneak up to them, you can jump on and attempt to tame them. Luckily, crouching and dashing is easier in this game, so you can do that to quickly and silently catch up to wild horses – though stealth boosts also help.

Once you get close, press A to mount them, and then repeatedly press L to Soothe them. Stronger horses will fight you for longer, and you’ll need the Stamina to stay on them. Or you can use Stamina recovery items mid-struggle.

Registering a horse is pretty simple as long as you know where to go. You can find Stables around Hyrule, and this is where you do pretty much everything in regard to horses. Take a horse to the front desk and talk to the receptionist while mounted (target with ZL and then press A) and you’ll be given the option to register your horse. It also costs a 20 rupee admin fee.

Once your horse is registered, it will heed your whistles, and you’ll always be able to recover it at a stable, no matter where you leave it in the world.
