The arms race between Blizzard Entertainment and creative Diablo 4 players continues: Each new update for the newly-released action RPG nerfs another powerful pathway to many abilities that the developer considers to be unnatural – we’re talking about power-leveling, of course.

After tuning down a particularly bountiful dungeon players had been using to farm XP efficiently, Blizzard has fixed another neat trick that had allowed players to level their characters quickly. A group of players found out that they could invite their friends to World Tier 3 and World Tier 4 even if these invitees did not yet fulfill the requirements to play on that level. You need to get to Level 50 and 70 respectively and then complete a special dungeon to access those higher tiers.

The lower level players would then just stand near their friends and benefit from all the XP their monster-slaying generated, very quickly leveling them up – a very useful method to quickly get all the classes up to speed.

It proved too cheesy for Blizzard’s taste, unfortunately, so update 1.02’s latest hotfix crashed the party by fixing this loophole:

  • Resolved an issue where players in World Tier 3 and World Tier 4 could invite others to their party that were not eligible for those higher tiers.
  • Fixed an issue where all World Tiers would display as unlocked when players may not have met the requirements.
  • Further stability and improvements.

Blizzard is holding a campfire chat over on Twitch on June 16, 2023, at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST, so if you’re burning to know why the developers are clamping down on things like power-leveling, then you’ll have the chance to do so during this event.
