Update (Feb. 22, 2023): The Primal Rumblings event in Pokémon Go is finally here, giving you the opportunity to complete a variety of Field Research Tasks as well as a Collection Challenge to gather consumables you'll need for the upcoming GO Tour: Hoenn.

This event has also brought Rayquaza back into the 5-Star Raids with an exclusive move, so be sure to check out our Rayquaza raid guide for the best counters.

Here are all Pokémon Go Primal Rumblings tasks you can work on.

Pokémon Go Primal Rumblings: Field Research

You gain access to random Field Research Tasks by spinning PokéStops. During Primal Rumblings, you can get the following tasks and rewards:

  • Catch a Treecko: Ultra Ball x2, Great Ball x5, and Pokéball x10
  • Catch a Torchic: Ultra Ball x2, Great Ball x5, and Pokéball x10
  • Catch a Mudkip: Ultra Ball x2, Great Ball x5, and Pokéball x10
  • Catch 3 Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region: Pinap Berry x10 and Razz Berry x10

These rewards aren't anything extraordinary, but anyone suffering from resource shortages before GO Tour: Hoenn Global will definitely benefit from completing them to refill their stocks.

Pokémon Go Primal Rumblings: Collection Challenge

You have until February 24, 2023, at 10pm local time to complete this Collection Challenge and claim the associated rewards:

  • Treecko (wild, raids)
  • Torchic (wild, raids)
  • Mudkip (wild, raids)
  • Sceptile (evolution)
  • Blaziken (evolution)
  • Swampert (evolution)

You will gain ten Ultra Balls as well as a Rocket Radar for your troubles. While those ten balls aren't really worth the effort, getting the Rocket Radar ready for the likely Giovanni appearance during GO Tour: Hoenn is a nice benefit. After all you'll need three of these items to find and battle Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra before being able to face Team Rocket's final boss.

Original (Feb. 17, 2023): The actual Primal Rumblings event in Pokémon Go is not slated to go live until next week, but a Special Research series bearing this title is becoming available in the mobile game on February 17, 2023, at 10am local time.

Completing this Special Research will allow you to benefit from exclusive bonuses during the GO Tour: Hoenn event at the end of the month. This time around, you don’t need a paid ticket to be able to participate in the global online event. However, choosing between the Sapphire and Ruby edition and getting access to the according bonuses requires you to finish off this string of tasks.

A paid ticket is only necessary to get the Special Research for Shiny Jirachi during GO Tour: Hoenn.
