Best Chaos Dwarfs melee infantry: Infernal Ironsworn

The Infernal Guard is the Chaos Dwarfs’ equivalent of Slayers, though instead of seeking to redeem themselves for past mistakes through a glorious death, they want to contribute glorious deeds for their society to rejoin it. Having their helmets welded onto their faces for however long that process takes, Infernal Guard troops are the elite infantry of their people – and among them, the Infernal Ironsworn with their flaming helmets are the cream of the crop.

They are heavily armored on top of carrying shields alongside their axes, which makes them hard to kill without armor-piercing damage. Ironsworn are equipped with precursor weapons in the form of flaming, armor-piercing grenades, which they can throw before the lines clash to strike the first blow. Their axes are imbued with fire and magical damage, and their leadership of 85 makes them nearly unbreakable. They will hold the line or die in the process.

Fireglaives, which belong to the Infernal Guard as well, might be the best hybrid infantry unit in the game. A fireglaive is exactly what the name states: a glaive that is also a fire-spitting ranged weapon. Fireglaives are well-armored and can hold their own in melee combat, dishing out fire damage, but their immense range of 145 combined with their armor-piercing and flaming missiles makes them into fantastic snipers to take down high-value targets with.

Their rate of fire is on the slower side to make them balanced, but once they are locked on to their targets, there is no escape from their sight – especially if a sorcerer with the Lore of Hashut reduces the fire resistance of their target.

Due to the influence of Hashut, some Dawi-Zharr are born as monstrous Bull Centaurs and see service as cavalry in the Chaos Dwarf armies. The Great Weapon variation of these troops is a nigh unstoppable juggernaut against other cavalry and monsters, causing fear around them and chopping them up with their greataxes. While their defense is lacking, their sheer ferocity and anti-large bonus damage are enough to quickly chew through armored cavalry formations.

There is only one ranged cavalry option for the Chaos Dwarfs, but it’s a solid one: Hobgoblin Wolf Raiders (Bows) are relatively cheap and shoot fire arrows while they’re on the move, making them perfect additions to your slow Dawi-Zharr armies as they can harass the enemy and perhaps provoke them into attacking.

The ultimate creation of daemonsmithing, the K’Daai Destroyer is the pinnacle of what Chaos Dwarfs are capable of producing. Sporting 90 armor, over 10,000 HP, flaming, magical, and armor-piercing attacks, and the powerful Hellish Frenzy ability, which provides it with significant stat boosts as long as it has over 75% of its HP, this machine dominates any battlefield. Add a Daemonsmith hero to any army with a K’Daai Destroyer to keep it healed up to get the most out of it.

The mighty Bale Taurus comes with high missile resistance, causes terror, has flaming and armor-piercing attacks, the Blazing Body passive ability and an active Flaming Breath attack – unless you’re a Chaos Dwarf lord, you do not want to rodeo on this bull.

While the Dreadquake Mortar is a slow-firing and not all too accurate behemoth of an artillery piece, it just about annihilates anything it manages to hit. In addition, its projectiles will cause a slow effect in the impacted area, which increases the chance of subsequent hits and disrupts the enemy formation, opening gaps that your cavalry or flyers can use to deal further damage to the isolated units.

Best Chaos Dwarfs Regiment of Renown: Immortals

The Immortals are a force among the Infernal Guard that is so badass that certified Chaos Dwarf hater Grimgor Ironhide (a former slave of the Dawi-Zharr) named his own bodyguard unit after it – they look terrifying and will slaughter any infantry unit they come across with their dual axes. They have over 10,000 HP, 125 armor, 95 leadership, and magical, flaming melee attacks. While they don’t sport a shield or grenades, they come with anti-infantry bonus damage and the Undying Will passive ability, which literally makes the models in the unit immortal until their overall HP is below 75%. These guys certainly live up to their name.
