80-rated soulslike surprise from 2023 hits lowest-ever price on Steam

Is that Pinocchio’s music?!

NEOWIZ

Any soulslike game released after Elden Ring was generally held to be in a tough position – how would you even be able to get close to FromSoftware’s masterful genre entry? So hopes weren’t high for South Korean developer NEOWIZ and its outlandish idea of a soulslike action RPG with the story of Pinocchio as its basis. Then again – the idea was so exotic that it was already kind of intriguing. And then the most magical thing of all happened: The game turned out to be good.

Lies of P, the soulslike dark horse of 2023, is currently off by 30% on Steam, cutting its price to its lowest-ever point. This is offer is valid until April 16, 2024. Rated 9/10 by Steam users and 80/100 on Metacritic, NEOWIZ’s puppet adventure took everyone by surprise and became a very deserved commercial success for the developer as well as our best soulslike of 2023. Apple even crowned the title as the best game available on Mac of 2023.

Genuinely good combat mechanics, progression, environment, and story made the game a very strong package overall. Sure, it couldn’t ever compete with the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for a Game of the Year award, but it at least got a nod at TGA 2023 by being a candidate for Players’ Choice.

And guess what? There’s more coming! Lies of P DLC is in the works at NEOWIZ, so players will be able to dive back into the dark, yet elegant Belle Epoque world of Pinocchio and go on a whole new adventure with satisfying boss fights and thrilling story bits.

If you’re looking to get back into the soulslike groove ahead of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree release, you certainly could do much worse than warming yourself up with Lies of P.
