If your gear slots are full in Hogwarts Legacy, you’re not alone. Early on in the game, you’ll have to make plenty of trips to Hogsmeade to sell off your unwanted gear, but you can increase your Hogwarts Legacy inventory space if you follow these steps.

You’ll definitely need this space if you want to change your appearance in Hogwarts Legacy, since collecting lots of gear gives you more style options.

The first thing you need to do to upgrade your inventory space is meet an NPC who introduces you to the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trails, which are little puzzles dotted all around the open world map. Once you’ve done that, you can find Merlin Trails all over the Scottish Highlands. As long as you have Mallowsweet, you can activate them and attempt to solve their puzzles.

Some of the puzzles require specific Hogwarts Legacy spells, so just look for another if you can’t figure out the solution. Merlin Trials are the key to upgrading your inventory space and getting rid of that pesky "gear slots full" error message.

Complete Merlin Trials and you’ll get more inventory space at each of these milestones:

  • Two Merlin Trials
  • Six Merlin Trials
  • Ten Merlin Trials
  • 14 Merlin Trials
  • 18 Merlin Trials

However, this extra room doesn’t unlock automatically. Here’s what to do:

  • Pause the game and head to the Challenges section on the radial menu.
  • From there, choose Exploration and scroll down to the Merlin Trials section.
  • Click on the milestones you’ve completed and you’ll get more room in your inventory for each milestone you’ve hit.

I don’t know about you, but I’d simply get magic pockets if I were a wizard.
