MiHoYo is the development studio of HoYoverse, a Shanghai-based games publisher. Founded by a group of university students, who wanted to make games based on the Japanese anime culture, it has since become one of the most lucrative companies in the video games industry.

Its worldwide breakthrough came with the release of Genshin Impact in 2020, which became a global hit and continues to dominate the mobile game market. In 2023, the company released Honkai: Star Rail, which found critical acclaim as well as love from users all over the world.

Despite its massive growth and success the company remains in private hands, still belonging to its student founders and the anonymous angel investor that helped get them started.
